Accreditaton Visits
In 1997 starts the Accreditation process, with the aim of promoting a better quality to the RED centers and to ensure the accuracy of the data sent to the Registro Latinoamericano de Reproducción Asistida ( RLA ).

Requirements for Accreditation:
Any center that has an interest in joining the RED should :
• Possess current legal person ;
• Comply with the health conditions of their country and requested by RED ;
• Report results to the Registro Latinoamericano de Reproducción Asistida ( RLA ) ;
• Accept to pay the fee for the visit ( USD 1,200 ) .

Stages of the accreditation process :
1. The center should indicate their interest in the belong to RED, requesting to the RED Secretariat ;
2 . Should report their data to the RLA ;
3 . A visit of accreditation , which is held by two accreditors (usually a clinical and a biologist ) , which are chosen from the accredited centers of RED is scheduled . The accreditors must meet the following requirements : have proper training , do not have any relationship with the center who will visit , accept the confidentiality of the information received to the visit and belong to an accredited center of RED ;

During the visit , must attend the Clinical and Laboratory Directors .

 

Points to be evaluated during the accreditation visit :
1. The Assisted Reproduction Laboratory : its facilities, equipment , recording and quality control systems .
Note: the parameters that will be considered are in the Procedures Manual for Assisted Reproduction Laboratory of RED , the Standards for Accreditation and Evaluation Forms - checklist .
2 . Verification of data reported to the RLA ;
3 . Clinical and embryology lab stories ;
4 . ( Duly signed ) informed consent ;
5 . CVs of professionals of the center ;
6 . Center efficiency ;
7 . The manual of procedures (clinical and laboratory ) ;
8 . All documentation to back up the questions marked with &  in the Questionnaire ( Checklist ) .

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION :
When asked by the existence of criteria protocols , controls , etc. . , one must understand that we request are written or documented and are shown as the accrediting requests . The corresponding questions marked with the symbol & documentation should always be shown . Other evidence ( certification of instruments , bioassays of commercial media , etc. . ) Should be shown as the accreditor requests . After completing the questionnaire should be signed by the Cliical and Laboratory Directors . In the event that a question does not apply to the Centre , should be explained in the same place the questionnaire , giving the reasons for which do not apply . These questions will be deducted from the total at the time of establishing the percentage of appropriate responses.

Review:
Classification of questions : There are four types of questions :
Category 1 : ESSENTIAL
Category 2 : VERY IMPORTANT
Category 3 : IMPORTANT
Category 4 : SUGGESTED

To get your ACCREDITATION , the center must comply with : 95 to 100 % of the questions Category 1 (for them who performs procedures ) and 75 % of Category 2 questions . If a center accumulates 85-94 % adequate responses to questions from Category 1 and 75% fulfilled Category 2 responses to questions , receive conditional approval , with a maturity of 1 year to resolve bankruptcies found . At the end of this period , the Accreditation Committee will evaluate the changes made by the center and will make its recommendation to the Board of Directors .

To get your ASSOCIATION , the center must meet : 76-84 % of responses to questions from Category 1 and 75 % of Category 2 responses to questions .
If a center accumulates 70-75 % of questions completed Category 1 responses and 50 % of responses to questions from Category 2 , receive a CONDITIONAL ASSOCIATION , with a maturity of 1 year to resolve bankruptcies found . At the end of this period , the Accreditation Committee will evaluate the changes made by the center and will make its recommendation to the Board of Directors . The data reported by these centers will not be incorporated into the Registro Latinoamericano de Reproducción Asistida report.

If the center doesn’t get the number of acceptable answers , will be REFUSED .

Evaluation process - after you have received the visit:
The accreditors report the results directly to the Accreditation Committee and perform your comments and suggestions about the centers visited . To make this decision , the Committee is based on accreditation standards , evaluation forms ( Checklist ) and comments that accreditors perform after the visits . The Committee presents its decision to the Board of Directors (BD ) and this makes the final decision .

Result:
A center may result Accredited ( socio activo ) , associated ( socio suscriptor ) or refused. After visited, each center receives a letter with the suggestions made ​​by accreditors . These suggestions are intended to improve the quality of care for each center to their patients .
The resulting associated centers may maintain this condition for a period of three years , when they will be revisited . Also , those centers that were refused , will be invited to participate again , once they have made ​​the suggested changes .
