Current status of assisted reproduction in Latin America and the world.

"We invite all centres of REDLARA and new centres performing Assisted Reproduction procedures to report their data corresponding to the year 2015.

This report corresponds to the 16 th edition of the Latin American Registry (RLA). In this publication, 130 centres from eleven countries provided information of ART procedures performed during the year 2005; the pregnancies obtained from these procedures, births and babies.

A total of 26,646 cycles (20.487 oocyte-pickups, 3,516 OD embryo transfers and 2,643 frozen/thawed embryo transfers) were registered. This represents a 8.4%-increment with respect to the year 2004.

The proportion of transfers in women = 35 years reached 54.0% for in vitro fertilization (IVF), and 54.1% in the case of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

The live birth delivery rate per transfer was 23.8% for IVF and 23,2% for ICSI. In cycles with OD fresh embryo transfers it reached 31.1%; and in cycles with frozen/thawed embryo transfers it reached 15.6%.

More than half of transfers were of three or more embryos, irrespective of the technique (FIV, ICSI, OD) and the women´s age.

In 28.1% of the clinical pregnancies resulting from fresh embryo transfers, OD and non-OD, were multiple. The frequency of multigestation varied according to the technique, the women´s age and the number of embryos transferred.

From a total of 8,010 clinical pregnancies, 16.6% resulted in spontaneous abortion. Of the 7,365 babies reported, 43.9% were multiple with a high frequency of them being premature, with the complications implied.

For the first time, cycles with one or two elective embryo transfer are presented. These transfers represented 9.0% and 29.9% of 1 and 2 embryo transfers, respectively. This proportion varied with the women´s age, being higher in women = 34 years. The live birth delivery rate per transfer, in the group of one and two selective embryo transfers was 27.3%.

A total of 237 embryo transfer cycles with preimplantation genetic diagnosis ; . 41.9% of the embryos studied were normal, with a mean of 1.6 embryos transferred, achieving a pregnancy rate per transfer of 25.7%
